Anti Cellulite Creams
The problem for most women ever since getting out of puberty is cellulite. Cellulites are characterized by dimply, cottage-cheese like appearance of the skin surrounding the lower limbs, buttocks, and upper thighs. Different factors have been speculated to cause cellulite formation, but studies still hasn’t come up with a definite answer as to what really causes it.
A lot of anti-cellulite creams are being advertised nowadays, promising to get rid of these unsightly marks. The question is in the effectiveness of these creams? A combination of caffeine, retinol and the antioxidant DMAE are formulated in most creams. Here is a quick overview of the ingredients and their functions in the treatment.
Caffeine, taken orally, seems to increase cellulite probably by impairing circulation and lymph flow. It is an enzyme that inhibits fat breakdown which is believed to reduce fat content in cells by blocking phosphodiesterase if applied topically. This is based on the belief that cellulites are just plain fat that is deposited on the problem areas.
Anti cellulite creams that has retinol improves circulation to the skin and smoothen its appearance. The retinoid tretinoin has been demonstrated to increase the rate of cell turnover, to increase levels of collagen in the skin, and to antagonize the induction of collagenase, thereby increasing the skin’s elasticity. However, the number of fat cells in retinol-treated areas did not appear to change, indicating that retinol may improve the skin overlying the fat cells, but not the fat itself.
Dimethylethanolamine (DMAE) is an antioxidant derived from fish sources such as sardines and anchovies. The expected effect of it when combined with other amino acids is muscle contraction causing the skin to be tight and firm.
As of the present, no scientific study has been shown to clearly and effectively treat cellulite. Most of the products work by improving the appearance of the skin surface and this results to the decrease of the unsightly appearance of the dimples and bumps. However, treatment of the underlying cause of cellulite formation remains to be a mystery.
Prevention, still, is better than cure. A healthy lifestyle can help prevent the occurrence of cellulite in the body. Regular exercise is a very important part of your lifestyle since cellulite develops from excess body fat. Other than losing body fat, rigorous cellulite exercises help firm up the muscle tissue beneath the skin and improves circulation, which is necessary to avoid cellulite forming. Also, avoid eating meals that have high fat quantity. Because some of the fatty foods are difficult to break down and will store as fat, any cellulite problems you may have will accentuate it.
