Applying Hair Dye
Many people will color their hair to help them look younger; the following steps will ensure that you get this just right.
- You have to be sure that you have chosen the right color. To be safe, it is always better to choose a color that is not much different from your actual hair color.
- Hair dye contains chemicals so it is always recommended that you wear the protective gloves that come with the color.
- Cover your shoulders with an old towel and make sure that you have some paper towels on hand in case of spillages. Similarly, it’s better to wear an old shirt you don’t like while applying hair dye.
- Follow the instructions on the box for mixing the dye. However before you apply it, you have to first coat your hairline and ears with some Vaseline or lip balm to prevent accidental staining.
- When applying the color, make sure that you section off your hair and apply it this way. Make sure your hair is completely and evenly coated so that the dye does not look streaky. In order to ensure that you cover more than the top layer of your hair, you will have to work it in deep.
- The instructions on the box will indicate the time that you have to leave your color in for. However if the purpose of applying it is to cover gray hair, you have to leave the dye on for ten more minutes.
- Any excess dye on your forehead or neck should be removed using the paper towel. You need to rinse out the dye when the time is up. You have to first apply some water to your hair, lather up and let it sit for another minute before you rinse till you get clear water.
- You will be given a conditioner with your hair dye kit and you need to apply this and leave it in for a minute or two before rinsing it out.
It is better to let your hair dry naturally as it retains shine better than blow-drying your hair.
