Comparing Electrolysis Hair Removal Against Other Methods

Unwanted hair removal is a deep concern for many people. Unwanted hair removal was not as accepted as it is now merely a generation back. However strategies for hair removal had been around for hundreds of years. The most popular procedure is perhaps electrolysis. Electrolysis was first used to get rid of hair in 1875 by an ophthalmologist named Dr. Charles E. Michael on a patient to remove an ingrown eyelash. Unwanted hair is often hereditary. It is also a result of hormone levels, by certain medications and conditions. Hair on women’s upper lip and limbs are good examples. There are different methods available to remove unwanted hair. Electrolysis is the most popular of them. It’s known as the only hair removal technique that is permanent.

The various procedures available are discussed against electrolysis here.

The simplest method is shaving. But shaving may cause ingrown hair in the pubic areas. Electrolysis stops all further hair growth by completely destroying the hair follicles.

Tweezing is another simple system but a very painful one. It is effective providing there are just a few hairs to get rid of. Plucking can cause scars and ingrown hair. Neither scars nor ingrown hair is a problem with electrolysis.

Waxing is a technique where wax is applied on the skin and pulled off when dry. The wax pulls out hair while being plucked off. The method is painful and can cause skin irritation and scars especially for sensitive skin. Electrolysis causes very little discomfort and no soreness.

Threading is a technique where hair is pulled out with a loop of cotton thread. Though cheap it can cause folliculitis, reddening and scars.

Sugaring is an old Middle Eastern procedure where a paste or gel made out of sugar, lemon juice and water is placed on your skin in the direction of growth and pulled off in the opposite direction. It is also a little painful and can cause soreness and infection. Again these are not problems with electrolysis.

Depilation is a technique where unwanted hair is removed by applying over the counter chemicals in the form of cream. The chemicals can cause scars and infections which are not caused by electrolysis.

Oral medication like the Food and Drug Administration approved Vaniqa is good in all respects only that it retards hair growth however does not remove unwanted hair whilst electrolysis permanently removes unwanted hair.

Laser system where the pigment of hair is destroyed using laser beams is a very preferred technique. But it does not work in light colored hair like grey or blond hair. However electrolysis works in all types of hair.

Hence it’s clearly seen that electrolysis is in almost all options better than any other hair removal approach. It’s the least painless. It also doesn’t have any long term unintended side effects such as scarring. Neither does it bring about any infection. It works on all people and is the only hair removal system accepted as being permanent by the Food and Drug Administration and the American Medical Association. But it is a time consuming and costly method since it takes anywhere between 15 and 30 sessions to complete the process and each session costs about$ 45. Unless you are looking for a non permanent option electrolysis is what you need to go for.
