Does plastic surgery help improve people’s confidence?

Everyone has things they dislike about their appearance, and with the ready availabiliey of cosmetic surgical procedures it’s getting more and more simple to fix. Whether you want to look younger, slimmer, smoother, curvier or flatter, ever increasing numbers of people are turning to plastic surgery for a quick beauty fix, and with so many perfect looking celebrities showing us how it can be done the possibilities seem endless. But would happiness really come after surgery? And how far should we take the quest for perfection?

In these times when going under the knife is hardly more unusual than visiting the dentist, many people believe we have already gone too far. People, particularly girls, of a younger and younger age are making these massive choices about how they want to look which will have an impact on their whole lives. No surgery has ever been entirely risk free, wouldn’t it be better not to gamble unnecessarily with our looks and learn to appreciate what we have instead of chasing after something we don’t?

But for a lot of people it’s about more than just wanting to look good. The serious hangups some people have with their looks can lead to all sorts of other problems like depression or low self esteem, which can affect their everyday lives and hold them back. if someone is certain that having surgery to correct what they perceive to be their flaws is definitely what they want to do, it could make them happier and surely that’s their decision? We’ve all experienced the confident feeling you get when you know you look your best, and if getting liposuction or a breast augmentation could help people to get the self esteem boost they need then it really could improve lives. Having cosmetic surgery is a big step that no one should ever take without being completely sure it’s what they want, but ask one of the thousands of people who have been given a whole new life, they have no regrets.
