Rise In Number Of People Going To Spas

After a drop in the market over the last 6 months, reports have come in that the number of people taking spa days is on the up again.

They are really considered a luxury by many due to the large amount they cost. Despite this, the popularity of spa days soured over the last 10 years, and more spas are now open all round the world than ever before. An increase in global disposable income was cited as one reason for this but increase levels of body awareness and increasingly stress levels have also be suggested.

There has been a pretty poor outlook for many spas recently however. The current economic climate has seen a dramatic drop in the number of people coming in for spa treatments and also purchasing products from the spas. Many have had to make cutbacks on staffing and also reduce the ranges of treatments that they offer, especially skin care treatment. One Spanish spa owner reported “we have had terrible booking figures over the last year, nobody has any money for luxuries”.” There have been reports of spa closures all around the world and many have also been shut down to ride out the recession.

News from a spa booking agency in the UK (Spa Break) has been better however. Their figures indicate a step up in voucher purchases, product sales and also simple treatment bookings. This upward turn is thought to be a result of people regaining a little more confidence in their own finances after a scare. They want to spend the money that they find themselves with on having some fun and forgetting about the outside world for a day.2 spas in the Devon area of the UK have now opened again and 1 in Bristol is set to open next month.A close eye will be kept on future figures by those in the industry, hoping that the recovery will continue
