Top Tips on Applying Makeup
Makeup trends-like fashion styles-can come and go. But basic makeup application never varies. Designed to show off your best facial features, start with the basics before changing it up a bit to conform to the latest trend.
To create a beautiful result with makeup, you need a combination of three elements: high quality products like Elizabeth Arden makeup, a skin care regime, healthy skin as a solid foundation, and the proper makeup tools and application procedures.
Once you have mastered the basics, you can make subtle changes to your makeup regime to develop a style all your own.
But first, here’s how to get started with the basics.
1. Firstly, Clean Your Face
A clean face is essential before applying any type of makeup products. So start by gently cleaning the face with a facial cleanser using clean cotton pads and a gentle circular motion to remove dirt and oils. Rinse and repeat if necessary.
2. Define Your Brows
Eyebrow hairs don’t just grow where we want them. Sometimes strays grow outside of your desired brow line or across the bridge of the nose. You should remove these stray hairs by plucking them from the base of the hair follicle with an angle-edged tweezers-taking care to pluck in the direction the hair naturally grows.
3. Your Skin And Foundation
Selection of the right shade of foundation is critical to achieving a natural flawless look that will enhance rather than detract from your beauty. When properly applied, foundation should be barely noticeable to the naked eye, serving to minimize the appearance of any facial blemishes. You need to select a foundation color that matches your natural skin tones and smoothes out any discrepancies or variances in your facial skin to provide an even color. Use a small makeup sponge to dot foundation on your nose, forehead, cheeks, and chin. Starting with the nose, gently blend and feather the foundation and work outward. Foundation should end and blend near the jaw line with no visible makeup line.
4. Set Your Foundation With Powder
It’s best to select a good transparent face powder or one that contains a little sheen and matches your foundation color. Dip a large fluffy brush into the powder and dust it across your entire face, particularly your t-zone where it tends to get shiny. Brush off any excess.
5. Choosing Blusher
Blusher helps pink up your cheeks where your foundation muted the color as it was evening out your skintones. Use a large blush brush to apply color subtly to the apples of your cheeks and then blend it upward and outward for a natural look. Select a color that looks similar to the color of your cheeks after exercising for daily wear and use a little deeper color for evening wear.
6. Give Your Eyes Depth
Select a soft eyebrow pencil that matches your natural eyebrow color or a slightly darker shade. Softly apply short light strokes of the pencil to feather in spaces in your brows, shape them subtly, and make them appear fuller. Add a soft color of eyeshadow to your upper eyelid using a soft small brush and gently blend it into the crease of your eyelid and slightly beyond. Make sure there are no obvious lines where the color appears painted on.
7. Line Your Eyes
Starting with the top eyelashes, apply black or brown eyeliner to the outside edge of your lashes using short even strokes to fill in your lash line. Starting at the outer eye, do the same thing with the bottom lashes. To make eyes really pop, use a slightly thicker line on the outer edge of the top lashes.
8. How To Apply Mascara
Curl your upper eyelashes with an eyelash curler. Then select a brown or black mascara-the same shade as your eyeliner is best-and apply it gently using the mascara wand. Hold it parallel to your lashes and gently apply mascara to the upper lashes, sweeping up softly from below and separating the lashes. You may need to do this a couple of times. Use an eyelash comb to separate any clumps while the mascara is still wet. Then apply mascara to the lower lashes using a gentle side-to-side motion with the wand.
9. Creating Dramatic Lips
Applying a lip liner helps define the lip area and keeps lipstick in place longer. Select a shade that matches the lipstick you will use and draw a line of lip liner to outline your lips. Start from the middle and draw outward. Then add lipstick, filling in the outline. Rub lips together and then blot. Don’t forget to check your teeth and wipe them off if you got any on your pearly whites. When selecting lipstick colors, darker colors are best for evenings and dim lighting.
